Inspiring The Next Generation Of Scientists And Engineers


Coach Jon's BioHi, I am the coach, Jon Thompson.  I have been married to my wife, Brenda, for 27 years.  We have four children ages 13, 17, 21, and 24. I am a mechanical engineer at NASA-Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.  I am the Project Manager for the Cockpit Motion Facility. My wife and I have coached FLL for four years, and FTC for three years (two using VEX). This is my first official year to coach VRC. We volunteer at FRC, FTC, FLL, and VRC events in the area. My reason for coaching is to give the youth a chance to learn about robotics and to give them a “team” experience.  I believe they will be inspired in the math and science areas from what they learn from this experience.
