Inspiring The Next Generation Of Scientists And Engineers

Joe's Bio

My name is Joseph Miller and I am 16 years old. I am currently dual-enrolled at Thomas Nelson Community College where I have attained 42 credit hours. I am working on an Associate’s Degree in Engineering, and I hope to go on and eventually get a Bachelor, Masters, and eventually, a Ph.D. in Engineering. I am also looking at degrees in Communications, Accounting, History and Political Science. I have begun working on an M.B.A., through distance-learning from Heriot-Watt University, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

This is my third year on the robotics team, and this year, and I have started working more along the PR/Media side of things. For the past two years, I have developed a scouting sheet, built in Excel, to help in the process of alliance selection. I have also begun working on a packet of information to help new teams get started, and to help existing teams further develop as a team. I hope to turn the Twist Robotics website into a source of information with to-do lists, how-to files, books to read, design tips, teamwork tips and more. I currently operate in the role of notebook writer and chief photographer.

Some of my hobbies include photography, robotics, writing, reading technical and business books, Sudoku puzzles, photo editing, finding patterns, dirt-biking, drawing, painting, beading, origami, reading car magazines and hanging out with his friends. My life goals include travelling the world, visiting every country and state, continuing my education, designing and building four houses in different locations around the U.S., own my own personal jet, and to one day become President of the United States.

My main hobby is photography. I currently own a Nikon D40 Digital SLR, along with two lenses, an 18-55 mm, and a 55-200 mm VR. I recently bought an SB-600 Slave Flash, and I am currently saving for the newest addition to my fleet, the Nikon D90, the first SLR to offer video capability. I also have a Nikon FG, 35 mm SLR with two lenses as well; a 50 mm fixed, and a 135 mm fixed. I hope to one day be a part-time professional photographer, and I am planning to begin reviewing camera equipment.

The thing that I spend most of my time on though is writing. I write short (-1000 words) articles on a large variety of topics. I am currently working on a book that I am looking to have published by April of next year.

I currently own a 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta that I am trying to fix up and sell. I am looking for more cars to buy, fix up, and sell at a profit in order to find and buy my first real car, a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. I plan to eventually own a Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640, a Porsche 911, a Chevrolet Corvette and a Nissan GT-R Nismo.

I have many plans and ideas, and I am hoping that robotics will give me some of the experience I will need. I hope to one day be able to offer robotics scholarships to kids who can't afford to do it. One of my favorite quotes is by Donald Trump; "if you're going to think, why not think big?" I literally put this quote into action, and I am constantly thinking outside the box, and trying to do what other people say is impossible.
